Publication Ethic
CONTEMPLATE: Jurnal Ilmiah Studi Keislaman (e-ISSN: 2774-1842) is a peer-reviewed academic journal published biannually (June and December) by the Institute for Research, Publication, and Community Service (LP3M) Universitas Al-Qur’an Ittifaqiah (UQI) Indralaya. The journal provides a scholarly platform for the dissemination of original research and critical studies in various fields of Islamic studies, including Islamic Education, Arabic Language Education, Qur’anic Studies, Hadith Studies, Islamic Philosophy, Islamic Law, Islamic Thought, and other related disciplines.
To maintain the highest standards of academic integrity and publication quality, the journal adheres to internationally recognized publication ethics, including the principles established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and applicable Indonesian regulations concerning scientific publication ethics. All parties involved in the publication process—including editors, reviewers, authors, and publishers—are expected to uphold these ethical standards.
Responsibilities of Editors
The Editors of CONTEMPLATE: Jurnal Ilmiah Studi Keislaman are responsible for ensuring a fair, transparent, and professional editorial process.
Editors shall:
- Evaluate submitted manuscripts solely on the basis of their academic merit, originality, significance, clarity, and relevance to the journal’s scope.
- Make publication decisions based on reviewers’ recommendations, editorial policies, and the scholarly value of the manuscript.
- Treat all manuscripts fairly and without discrimination based on race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, religion, institutional affiliation, or political beliefs.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all information related to submitted manuscripts and disclose such information only to those directly involved in the editorial and review process.
- Ensure that manuscripts undergo a rigorous and unbiased peer-review process.
- Take appropriate action in cases of suspected plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, or other forms of publication misconduct.
- Avoid conflicts of interest and refrain from using unpublished materials from submitted manuscripts for personal research without the author’s explicit written consent.
- Preserve the integrity of the academic record by issuing corrections, clarifications, retractions, or apologies when necessary.
Responsibilities of Reviewers
Peer reviewers play a crucial role in maintaining the quality and integrity of the journal.
Reviewers shall:
- Assist editors in making editorial decisions through objective and constructive evaluations.
- Review manuscripts professionally, fairly, and within the agreed timeframe.
- Provide clear, evidence-based, and scholarly comments that help authors improve their manuscripts.
- Evaluate manuscripts objectively without personal criticism of the authors.
- Identify relevant published works that have not been cited by the authors.
- Inform the editor of any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under review and other published works known to them.
- Maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts and not use any information obtained through peer review for personal advantage.
- Decline to review manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest arising from competitive, collaborative, institutional, or other relationships with the authors or institutions involved.
Responsibilities of Authors
Authors are responsible for ensuring the integrity, originality, and quality of their submitted work.
Authors shall:
- Submit original research or scholarly work that has not been previously published and is not under consideration by another journal.
- Present research findings honestly, accurately, and transparently without fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate data manipulation.
- Ensure that all sources and references used in the manuscript are properly cited and acknowledged.
- Avoid all forms of plagiarism, including self-plagiarism and duplicate publication.
- Ensure that authorship is limited to individuals who have made significant scholarly contributions to the work.
- Obtain approval from all co-authors before submission and ensure that all co-authors agree to the final version of the manuscript.
- Disclose any financial support, funding sources, or potential conflicts of interest that may influence the research or interpretation of findings.
- Promptly notify the editor if a significant error or inaccuracy is discovered in a published article and cooperate in correcting or retracting the work when necessary.
- Respect ethical standards related to research involving human participants, institutions, or sensitive data.
- Accept editorial revisions related to language, formatting, and style, provided that such revisions do not alter the substance or scholarly contribution of the manuscript.
Responsibilities of the Publisher
Institute for Research, Publication, and Community Service (LP3M) Universitas Al-Qur’an Ittifaqiah (UQI) Indralaya, as the publisher of CONTEMPLATE: Jurnal Ilmiah Studi Keislaman, is committed to supporting ethical publishing practices and maintaining academic integrity.
The Publisher shall:
- Support editors and reviewers in performing their duties independently and professionally.
- Ensure that editorial decisions remain free from commercial, institutional, or personal influence.
- Safeguard academic freedom and uphold the integrity of the peer-review process.
- Protect intellectual property rights, copyrights, and the privacy of authors, reviewers, and editors.
- Facilitate the publication, dissemination, preservation, and accessibility of scholarly content.
- Promote ethical research and publication practices consistent with international standards.
- Take appropriate measures to address allegations of research misconduct, plagiarism, duplicate publication, or other ethical violations.
Ethical Violations and Misconduct
The journal does not tolerate any form of publication misconduct, including but not limited to:
- Plagiarism;
- Self-plagiarism;
- Data fabrication or falsification;
- Duplicate or redundant publication;
- Citation manipulation;
- Undisclosed conflicts of interest;
- Improper authorship practices;
- Ethical violations in research involving human participants.
When ethical concerns are identified, the Editorial Board will investigate the matter in accordance with COPE guidelines and may take actions including manuscript rejection, publication correction, retraction, or notification to the relevant institutions.
By submitting a manuscript to CONTEMPLATE: Jurnal Studi Keislaman, authors, reviewers, editors, and publishers agree to uphold these ethical principles and contribute to the advancement of scholarly communication with integrity, transparency, and responsibility.
