REVIEW PROCESS

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to Contemplate: Jurnal Ilmiah studi Keislaman undergo a rigorous peer-review process to ensure the quality, originality, and scholarly contribution of published articles. The journal adheres to the following review policies:

  1. Initial Editorial Screening

Every submitted manuscript is first evaluated by the Editorial Team to determine its suitability with the journal’s Focus and Scope, compliance with the Author Guidelines, and adherence to academic writing standards. Manuscripts that do not meet these basic requirements may be returned to the authors without external review.

  1. Originality and Plagiarism Check

All submissions must be original works and must not have been published, accepted, or simultaneously submitted elsewhere. Each manuscript is screened using Turnitin or similar plagiarism-detection software. Manuscripts with excessive similarity levels or indications of academic misconduct will be rejected or returned to the authors for revision.

  1. Language Quality

Manuscripts must be written in clear and academically acceptable English. Authors whose first language is not English are strongly encouraged to have their manuscripts professionally proofread or edited before submission to ensure clarity, coherence, and readability.

  1. Double-Blind Peer Review

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening are subjected to a double-blind peer-review process, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed. Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two independent experts in the relevant field. Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on originality, methodological rigor, theoretical contribution, clarity of presentation, relevance to the journal’s scope, and overall scholarly significance.

  1. Additional Reviewers

If the reviewers’ recommendations differ significantly or if additional expertise is required, the Editor may assign the manuscript to a third reviewer to obtain further evaluation and ensure a fair and balanced assessment.

  1. Review Recommendations

Reviewers may recommend one of the following decisions:

    • Accept without revision;
    • Accept with minor revisions;
    • Accept with major revisions;
    • Resubmit for further review; or
    • Reject.

Authors are expected to revise their manuscripts in accordance with reviewers’ comments and submit a detailed response to each recommendation.

  1. Editorial Decision

The final decision regarding acceptance, revision, or rejection of a manuscript rests solely with the Editor-in-Chief, in consultation with the Associate Editors and Editorial Board when necessary. Editorial decisions are based on reviewers’ reports, the manuscript’s academic merit, and its contribution to the field, rather than solely on reviewers’ recommendations.

  1. Publication Process

Accepted manuscripts will be scheduled for publication by the Editor-in-Chief. The assignment of articles to a particular issue is determined by several considerations, including the date of acceptance, thematic relevance, editorial planning, and the journal’s commitment to maintaining diversity in authorship and scholarly perspectives.

  1. Publication Ethics

The journal is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and follows internationally recognized ethical guidelines. Any form of plagiarism, data fabrication, data falsification, duplicate publication, or unethical research practices will result in immediate rejection or retraction of the manuscript.

Through this peer-review system, Contemplate: Jurnal Ilmiah Studi Keislaman seeks to ensure the publication of high-quality scholarly works that contribute significantly to the advancement of Islamic studies and related academic disciplines.
