Peer Review Proces

Every manuscript submitted to LA RIBA: Jurnal Perbankan Syariah undergoes a rigorous evaluation process to ensure academic quality, scientific integrity, and relevance to the journal’s aims and scope. Submitted manuscripts must comply with the journal’s author guidelines, demonstrate clear scholarly contribution, possess originality and novelty, and provide meaningful insights into the fields of Islamic banking, Islamic finance, Islamic economics, and related disciplines.

At the initial stage, the Editorial Team conducts a desk evaluation to assess the manuscript’s suitability with the journal’s focus and scope, methodological soundness, writing quality, adherence to submission guidelines, and compliance with publication ethics standards. Manuscripts that do not meet the basic requirements or fall outside the journal’s scope may be rejected without proceeding to external review (desk rejection).

Manuscripts that pass the preliminary assessment will undergo an originality screening using Turnitin to ensure that they are free from plagiarism, duplicate publication, and other forms of academic misconduct. Only manuscripts that satisfy the journal’s originality standards will proceed to the peer-review stage.

LA RIBA employs a Double-Blind Peer Review system, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed throughout the review process. This approach ensures objectivity, impartiality, and fairness in manuscript evaluation. Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two independent reviewers who possess expertise relevant to the subject matter of the submission.

Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on several criteria, including:

  • Originality and scientific contribution;
  • Relevance to the journal’s aims and scope;
  • Clarity of research objectives and research questions;
  • Appropriateness and rigor of the research methodology;
  • Quality of analysis and discussion;
  • Accuracy and adequacy of theoretical framework and references;
  • Significance and implications of the findings;
  • Organization, readability, and academic writing quality;
  • Compliance with research and publication ethics.

Based on the reviewers’ evaluations, one of the following recommendations may be issued:

  1. Accept;
  2. Accept with Minor Revisions;
  3. Accept with Major Revisions;
  4. Resubmit for Review;
  5. Reject.

Authors are required to address all reviewer comments thoroughly and submit a revised manuscript along with a response letter detailing the revisions made. Manuscripts requiring major revisions may be returned to the reviewers for further evaluation before a final decision is reached.

The final decision regarding acceptance or rejection of a manuscript rests with the Editor-in-Chief, taking into consideration the reviewers’ reports, editorial assessment, and the overall quality of the manuscript. In cases where reviewer recommendations differ significantly, the Editor may appoint an additional reviewer to provide an independent assessment.

Accepted manuscripts proceed through the stages of copyediting, proofreading, layout editing, and final publication. The order of publication is determined by the Editor-in-Chief, taking into account factors such as the date of acceptance, thematic balance within an issue, and the journal’s editorial priorities.

Through its transparent, objective, and professional Double-Blind Peer Review process, LA RIBA: Jurnal Perbankan Syariah is committed to publishing high-quality scholarly works that make significant contributions to the advancement of knowledge and practice in Islamic banking, Islamic finance, and related fields.
